I like this concept a lot--great idea! I only wish I could read what's on the computer. It's just big enough to make me feel like I should be able to read it, and just small enough so that I can't.

If you go to the original, I think you can?? lol... Its the census, btw... let me change the size here....
Re: 51's first thought....
Trish, how can you make the image more interesting visually? It strikes me as being straightforward...can you add interest with selective color, shallow dof, or something else?

i was considering possibly doing selective color... i may be able to play around with a few extra options, but any other angle and the laptop wasn't readable or took too much space, etc...
Trish, to answer your question from the other topic thread, yes, your theme also has old/new combined.
It does work, however I keep feeling that I would like to see a version without the computer too, just to see what "yesterday" looks like by itself, without the contrast of "today/tomorrow" in the same shot.
EDIT:
This is not a big deal, I just remember that the group consensus here was not to mix the themes if offered a choice of two...that one should pick one or the other...however "rules" are made to be broken!

I may have a chance to set it up again without the computer...biggest issue is when I start set up I have to stay at it...the darned cats think anything on the dining room table is fair game, and I'm not all about them napping on papers from 1803!!!
No worries Trish, the computer is not really competing for the theme as such, it is part of the modern toolkit for this type of work, I just like to see "yesterday" in isolation - with nothing modern (yes, the computer is yesterday too...just not as far back as the papers!).

I like the juxtaposition of old & new along with the faded old photo feel of the image.

You can experiment with selective coloring, though I'm not sure exactly what you would selectively color in this shot.
What might look nice, though, is if you gave the photo a vintage hand-painted look. There's a PS action that does a nice job of it here: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&extid=1045138
