Has anyone used the Canon 200mm f2.8 Ultrasonic L lens? I just found it used at a local shop here for $300 (glass is perfect). Is this a good price?

Thoughts?

How would I know if it is the MK2? Also do you know what mm this lens would be in the 35mm equivalent I am used to (this concept still throws me off). The lady at the store called it an equivalent of 320mm.

It is still a 200mm lense when it comes to magnification the way i understand it. It's crop factor is that of a 320mm lense.

It is an older looking lens, black body, no pod mount, relatively short. I should have taken a picture of it:):

    Look at the date code

    http://www.the-digital-picture.com/Canon-Lenses/Canon-Lens-Aging.aspx

    MK1 was built from 1991-1996
    MK2 was built from 1996-Present

Does yours look like I described? Any idea what the market price of this lens is?

If it has a built in lens hood, it's a MK1.
I bought a MK2 used for $525. $300 is a great price if everything is in working
order. The lens should be sharp at all F stops, and it uses teleconverters
(1.4 and 2 time) well. I use mine quite a bit with a cheap Quantaray 2X. I call
it the poor mans 400 F5.6 (because you lose 2 stops with the 2X TC).

Without a TC. (one of the first pics I took with this lens)

With a Quantaray tc. 100% crop no post work.

It has the built in lens hood, so it must be the MK1. I think I am going to bring in my used Nikon equipment and see about a trade.

    Bought it
I picked it up.... it hurt, because I traded a lot of my older Nikon equip to help cover the costs. So I traded my 8008s and SB-24 flash a Nikon 35-70mm (f3.3-5.6) and a couple of old, off brand manual focus lenses and they gave me a $200 credit, so I picked up the lens for $100!!! It is always tough to part with an old friend (camera body), but I know I will be hitting up ebay soon for a Canon 35mm just in case I want to shoot some film. I had to go out of town on business as soon as I picked up the lens, so I'll post up some pictures when I return.
