Can this feature cause noise in the images? I came across a post that with that kind of information.

If so, should I turn it off?

Thanks

This is question about a camera menu item, not about post processing, hence I am moving it to "Cameras"

Auto Lighting Optimizer (ALO) can be applied in post if you shoot RAW and process in DPP. It simply applies a custom tone curve and is somewhat similar to the Shadow/Highlight adjustment in Photoshop. I suppose it could expose some shadow noise as it boosts dark tones, but if it also provides more shadow detail then it might be worth it.

I suggest you shoot RAW and try it in DPP for yourself and make up your own mind whether and/or when to use it. You might find situations where you appreciate the benefits.
