Smugmug and Search Engines

Ok - I'm confused again.
What I would like to happen is that I can search for my images via Google etc using both the web and image search. I have added captions and keywords.
So far I can find my homepage using the search but nothing else (I may be too impatient of course)
The keywords only seem to appear in the page source once and this seems to be the bit that displays them (and I have turned this off in customisation) - presumably this means the keywords only work for SmugMug searches unless they are displayed?
