Sunflowers and Thunderstorm

I was driving in South Texas today as a really intense storm was brewing. As I was passing a large sunflower field, the contrast in colors was striking. I pulled over and captured a few images before the rain hit.

Just sharing.

Hi Danny, right place at the right time - and with your camera, 3/3 :D I agree, the contrast in colour is fantastic.

    Cheers, Richard.

    Stunning color. clap.gif

Was this a single frame? HDR? I'm curious about the shooting/processing techniques in this one. ear.gif

Superb shot! I keep seeing the sunflowers all over San Antonio but haven't found a good spot to shoot anything other than closeups. I love that you find a whole field of them, against a contrasting sky--very nicely done!

This was absolutely nothing fancy. I carry an old Nikon D50 with a Sigma 18-200 zoom with me everywhere I go. I travel alot for my "real" job during the week, and you never know what you might roll up on. This was just a single shot with all natural light. Was shooting on 18 mm, about 2' from the flower in the foreground. Did a levels adjustment and some burning around the edges, and that was all.

    Thanks for the comments.

Living on the Canadian Prairies, I've seen a few of these sunflower fields myself. They do look the best when under a dark contrasty (sp) sky.
    Very nicely done!

Where did you find this field? We've had such great skies this year but it's not always easy to find a subject to put in front of them! :D

Lauren - This was on Hwy 281 between Alice & Premont. There are several large sunflower fields in the Alice area. If you decide to head south, I would sure like to see some of the images you come up with.

Thanks, Danny. I travel 281 a lot, but seldom south of SA. I'll give it a shot if I can and will post for you. Cheers, Lauren
