Going to be shooting random Sail Boats at a race in SF.

Any tips?

I've got my position, just wondering about tech.

40D, Sigma 70-300mm Macro

Initial thoughts point me to:
RAW
f8-f11
ISO100
Shade WB
Landscape setting

SF can be bright and hazy and blue, any thoughts for that?

OK, here is what I would do.

    RAW
    auto WB
Graduated ND filter to bring down the sky if needed.
Adjust f stop, ISO, and shutter speed as needed. :D

By this I mean you would want a shutter speed at somewhere between 300 and 640 (My guess, test and see) to stop boat, flags, ocean chop motion.

I would try and look at various f stops for different effects, (like fast glass with small DOF) but over all f8 to f11 should be good.

Adjust ISO to achieve the above.

Let simmer on medium heat and serve.

One of the few times I would use a UV filter, to keep salt spray off the front of my lens, and a raincoat for my camera as well.

Shoot some wide angle shots as well a tele shots as well.
