Cotton Carrier Users?

Anyone use this setup? I think I want one. I looked hard at the Black Rapid straps but after reading about all the failures I kept searching for something better. The CC looks awesome AND has a tether in case the camera falls. Plus, I need something to take pics at the track and in the paddock. I also race(motorcycles) so I will have a one piece leather suit on 90% of the time. I could easily slip this on and just leave top of leathers unzipped... and have my camera right there. So, does anyone have any experience with a Cotton Carrier and how did you like it? 1 camera or 2? Gripped?

*Edit* Couldn't wait for reviews and just ordered one. :D

What failures are you referring to?

I really love mine - I have used it for about 2 months - hiked and casual bike with it and my 400mm 5.6 lens , 70-200 L 2.8 is and my 24-105mm lens- with my 40d body all hang well - have not had any problems - I have my manffroto tripod plate attached to the button so I don't have to take my plate off the camera all the time -and have used blue locktite to prevent it from spinning out - I think my locktite is old and did not set up well the first time but I have re-glued it and seems to work great - it really frees up your hands for balance while hiking etc. and the weight is well distributed - and as a woman - it fit fine -

Thanks, Marcy! I think it's an awesome little setup. I like that it has the leash AND the extra velcro strap that you can put across the lens. I can't wait to try it out. I think it's one of the most practical and innovative set ups out there. I didn't get the holster but maybe later. I'm glad to hear that women can use it comfortably also. It's just a great idea and I think it will really catch on eventually for a lot of people. Mine is on it's way!

I have the Black Rapid RS-7 strap and love it. I dont know of the cotton carrier straps, but I thought I would chime in with a vote for Black Rapid. With a conventional strap I often found myself constantly taking it off my camera because it only got in my way. The RS-7 took that annoyance away, and offers an extremely easy and secure way to carry my gripped D700.

I have the new dual black rapid strap and I have no issues.

The new ones that are being sold now are problem free.

Thanks for the links. Just read through them. Seems like the had a brief issue with their hook but that seems to be corrected and it didn't seem like many people had that problem.

The other problem most complained about--the connector coming unscrewed from the camera--well, that's not really a failure now is it? It's a matter of ensuring you've tightened that fastener properly.

Honestly, the way you mentioned it, I thought there was some serious issue with them. Seems like it's not much of an issue and the issue was with straps made over a year ago from what I can tell.

I'll still happily use my BR strap.

It does appear that the issues have been corrected. You're right though... most of the problems were over a year ago and I haven't heard of any recent ones. It made me nervous about ordering one though because I had just finished reading about all of the issues. My only concern now is my chinese Zeikos battery grip for my D300S. I don't know strong/reliable the tripod screw is on the grip. If it breaks.... I could be out a ton of money! Still thinking about purchasing one.

Your Cotton Carrier uses the tripod mount as well........... but I guess you do have the leash in case it breaks.

The Cotton Carrier looks like it would be good if you're going to be moving around A LOT. I believe you said you ride motorcycles? That would be good for that use.

I can use my Black Rapid strap with some movement and its ok. I even played kickball with some of my youth group teens with my gripped D700 on me. It's gonna bump around a little bit because its not strapped down to your body, but it worked pretty well.

Also, the trick to getting the fastener on the camera tight. Get the rubber seal wet before screwing it on. It goes on further, creating a tighter seal, then the water evaporates out of the rubber. I haven't had any issues and I've never had it loosen on me yet.

Yeah, I thought about the tripod mount. The BR strap is a little different though and the camera hangs with direct pressure being pulled away from the tripod mount/ The Cotton Carrier doesn't put as much "pull" pressure on the screw/mount. It still worries me using the grip because it's made in china and the tripod mount on it is guaranteed to have weaker metal and plastic than the Nikon mount. I would definitely feel safer using both carrier systems without the grip as the weak link.

I saw your thread on that. I can't comment as I have the Canon battery grip. Wish I knew for you.

Anyone have one these, and are they good? They look and seem really great, and this video is amazing in how secure your camera is held.

I just can't get over how these cotton carriers look. I am a HUGE fan of the black rapid configuration. My current set up uses Kirk camera plates with a loop of climbing webbing bar tacked onto the little side loop these plates have built in. I hook the black rapid clip to this. This way there really isn't anything to come undone and I can still use my tripod with the strap attached.

I have 1 black rapid strap and 1 home made one with 1inch tubular climbing webbing. I use a black rapid clip with this. Believe it or not I use the one with the webbing for my D3s. I like it so much that I am going to make another for my other camera. It is just lower profile and no pad to mess with.
