I just did a maternity shoot and the lady had a very hairy tummy. She was very self concious about it and I'd like to figure out a way to remove the hair in photoshop..anyone know some good techniques?? Thanks!

If you can/are willing to you can also share one representative example here, and see if other people can help thumb.gif

    Hi Court!

This can be a tricky situation. If she's self conscious about it then she'll be even more self conscious if you try to remove it and don't do a good job. Not saying you won't do a good job, just tread lightly. I would try to soften it instead of remove it. I'm not a fan at all of soft glowing photos so by soften I don't mean Gaussian blur. Some retouching action sets have something called "Powder your Nose" or something along those lines. It will soften the hair and make it less prominent. But please, please be careful with how heavily you use these filters. It is very easy to over do them. Use it to reduce the hair/blemishes/stretch marks. Do not try to remove them completely in most cases because that will look out of place and un-natural. If you'd like you can IM me a link to one of the images you're working with so I can give you more specific feedback.

Totally Rad Action set has one called Pro Touch Up. I think it may work well for this. I've used it to soften up my wife's cousin's mustache (female).

@Ivar... Laughing.gif. You're right. The pic is pretty Anonymous huh.

Oh yeah... that too. I do have a bit of hair there but as you can tell, not too self conscious about it. Feel free to use my image as practice for tummy hair removal. rolleyes1.gif

This thread is concerning post processing, not shooting techniques, and has been moved to Finishing School where it may get more suggestions.

I know this isn't going to help you now, but if she is so self concious about it, why didn't she shave it?

    I'm just saying....

The photographic message here is that it's better to properly prepare the subject and get it right in camera than try and fix it in post.

I dunno Sam I was kinda thinking the same thing however if I would have suggested it during the photoshoot then I'd prob. be stuck trying to remove razor burn, bumps, redness or something like that.ne_nau.gif

Try the good old Dust and Scratches filter (standard one with Photoshop).

It often works remarkably well on problems like this -- attenuating unwanted fine textures. You'll have to experiment with the radius and opacity but you should know within a minute or so whether it's going to work on your specific images.
