Anyone having issues with trying to change their avatar using the hosting feature in other forums than Dgrin?

I'm on a few different forums and I'm unable to change the avatar as I receive an invalid URL message. I'm using the direct tiny link to the photo and continue to get the same message. I've used this feature before and it has always worked. I'm not sure why it only works on Dgrin.

Smug support says it is a forum software issue, but the funny part is if I link a photo using zenfolio or flickr it works as advertised. I've opened the zenfolio free trial for a test and I have to say that their product has somewhat surprised me.

Any ideas or should I further contemplate the switch to zenfolio?

Are you sure that external linking is enabled on the gallery. Can you post the link you're using so we can check to see if it's right?

External links are on and here is the link. I'm beginning to think they may be too long.

Nope, that is a no go.

The links that work do not have underscores in them. All of the smug links have underscores. Thinking out loud.

There's nothing technically wrong with the URL. Any browser can load it. What forum software are you having this issue with?

VBulletin and I think IP.board.

I can link any other site link except smug.

So, it isn't a generic Smugmug issue or a length issue, but obviously there is some kind of problem.

Edit: Nevermind, even my image isn't working either. My image gets an error in a different spot, but still gets an error when the vBulletin software tries to actually fetch the image.

I'm not sure what was happening. My thumbnail is working on NikonCafe now.

I have a similar Smugmug avatar linking problem with LAShooters.org (another VBulletin site).

Hi Tim - as Josh replied on your help ticket a couple days ago, vBulletin can be set for a size for avatars - Dgrin's is 80x80 and so this link will work:

but not the -Ti link (our smallest thumb) which is 100px on the long side

It appears that avatars on LA Shooters are also 80px long side as well:

So, the trick is to use our custom image size feature and link the 80pixel size. More help on that is here, by the way: http://www.smugmug.com/help/custom-photo-sizes

Please let me know either here or in reply to your help ticket (which I'm also updating right now) and I'll be happy to discuss further. I'm sorry it took us a couple of replies to get it right for you. I believe this will fix the issue on LA Shooters forum, so try it, and let us know. If it doesn't work, I'll dig in deeper (and register there too so I can try it myself).
