Help?! Canon speedlite 580ex ii wont turn on?

I just bought a new 580ex ii from calumet (san francisco). I was in a hurry so i didn't get a chance to try it because i had a flight going back to the philippines. I just arrived and i discovered it won't turn on? help me please :cry
Canon 7D, 450D, 50mm 1.8, 50mm 1.2, Mp-e 65mm, 70-200mm f/2.8L USM, 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM, Canon 100mm f/2.8L macro IS USM, 580exII, some sigma lenses:D

    Double check the batteries' orientation.

    Open and close the battery hatch a few times.

    I'm pretty sure i placed the batteries in right.
    Opened and closed the battery hatch a few times but to no avail...

    Im using energizer batteries, if that would matter?

    You've probably already done this, but replace all the batteries. Sometimes a single bad battery can cause a piece of electronics to fail.
