What would you do?

If you have discovered through the new smugmug feature "Referrers" tab under 'stats', that some of your images are posted on an S&M site? The site itself requires that you register with them and pay them for that registration. Only 1 link allowed me through (must be a bug in their security) and I saw one of my images (of a Sea World picture of a lady with her face really close to a walrus face so his whiskers tickled her...not anything perverted) used in a context that was rude and totally not acceptable. It had my signature on it and was posted here on dgrin under the photo association game.

As of the other 110 images (or HITS?) that supposidly this site is posting...I cannot get into the links to see which images. I refuse to pay to join this group to tell them to remove the images. I do not see any links to tell me who runs the site.

What would you do in this case? I am thinking I will not post anymore images on dgrin exept for the ones I do on the challenges. I am also thinking of cleaning out my smugmug site to just have current images of challenges and customers that are active.

I have also found that almost a hundred of my images (or at least hits) used on a japanese (or chinese) site that gives them away as free wallpaper. Although I haven't seen the exact pages where they are...the link to the referral site is there and the number is not underlined...so it doesn't give me the exact page. I have gone through thousands of their images and found hundreds of other smugmuggers images (they do give links back to the place they got the picture from). Same for a mexican image search site...although they only had one of mine they had tons of other smugmug images.

My images are all right click protect...so I can only think that its here through dgrin that they are getting the images easier (although there is no such thing as bullet proof with right click). I haven't figure out how to stop this other than get the pictures off my site that are basically not selling anyway and lock the whole thing down.

So Without taking legal actions (I really do not make enough money), do you have any other suggestions? :scratch I have thousands of images on my site.

Check the "WHOIS" of the site....by going to GoDaddy and inputting the dot com or dot org or what ever into the search,
it should return this domain is already taken...then run the whois from there........it should come back with contact info.
Right or call them and ask to have them removed.......also water mark them

thank you Art for the good suggestion. I do have watermarks on all my images...although the images that have been in the challenges only have a my signature on them. I am not certain if they snagged it from picture association game....since that image was once in challenges a couple years ago. But I had posted it within the past 6 months on the association game and they seemed to have posted it within the past week.

If I were to change all the watermarks in my galleries to a big one...will it change the ones already out there that have been copied and pasted?

    No.

It will only change the ones that are linked, not those that were grabbed by a copy and paste (or by circumventing right click protection).

But the ones that show up in the new referrer stats are linked. There's no way to know if or where any that were grabbed by copy and paste have been posted. So the quick answer is, it will change it for all the ones you already found...
