Post-Sandstorm at Death Valley

Last week I had the opportunity to spend a few days at Stovepipe Wells in Death Valley, CA. The local sand dunes were hot and crowded on the first day with plenty of footsteps in the sand making it difficult to get a decent photo. On my second day, there was a cold front that came though the area resulting in strong winds and a little rain. This made for some interesting sky but made it impossible to walk into the dunes. On the third day I went out to the dunes well before sunrise and found the sand mostly undisturbed other than by me and wildlife from that night.
Any C&C is appreciated. Thanks for viewing.
1. Sunrise Sandstorm pano.
2. This is as far as I got into the dunes trying to capture some moving sand. I did manage to get a sand grain in my eye which took a whole day to remove. :cry
3. This was taken the morning following the sandstorm. Someone was here the previous afternoon leaving a neat handprint (and a nice pair of sunglasses).
.
4. After a 1/2 hour walk in the dark across the dunes there were only a few minutes available to catpure the best sunrise light.
5. These are my footprints leading from the dune peak where I setup for my sunrise shoot.:D

Thanks Jim. I also spent a day at the Racetrack Playa. Didn't get the light I was looking for but it was still a great photo op. Hope to see you and Kathy in AK this August.:D

Thanks for the comments W.D.
This image doesn't give a good perception of scale.
The lines across this dune extend about 200 yards long.
Also, the horizon is actually sloped as seen in the picture. I thought about leveling it, but that would not be true to life.:D

Wonderful job Fred. One and two are my favorites with the work on all, great as well. I am just fond of images that are more telling of the experience!

Thanks Steve, It seems like sand dunes and B&W just naturally go together.:D

Thanks Ron. Once you find the right place and the right light, the rest just follows thru.:D

It truely took a few days to find the right light and weather conditions but I accomplished what I hoped for.
I just received my CS5 upgrade this weekend. Gotta be ready for the Alaska trip this Summer. :ivar

Thanks Tharhawk,
While the sand was blowing, the only thing I was thinking about was protecting my gear.
Kept my camera under my jacket except when taking shots.
The desert sand actually just brushed right off the camera body and lens crevasses.
The 1D body survived well.

I love the clarity in all of these - number 2, 3, and 5 are my favourites. The clear desert air really shows in good photography.
Well done!
