A rescue dog's story...

We were asked by the American Maltese Association to foster a female Maltese who had been rescued from a local high kill shelter. When we picked up this poor girl, she was a mass of sores and scabs from flea and tick bites. She was flthy and - Oh Yes, she was also pregnant...
She had a boy and a girl, the day after we picked her up. They came into a warm, clean and loving environment...
We named the mother, "Sweetie", because she had such a sweet disposition...
We were happy that her puppies looked like Maltese.
As the weeks rolled on, the puppies grew and Sweetie began to look better. A good diet and some T.L.C. really helped...
She was a great mother...
But even good Moms need a break when their puppies grow teeth...
Sweetie was looking better and better. Her scabs and sores healed...
Our Goldendoodle, Holly, loved the puppies...
But, eventually it was time for the puppies to go to a new loving home...
But what about Sweetie? After-all, this was only her foster home...
We couldn't let this brave sweet girl go. Sweetie has found her forever home - WITH US...

AKC standards say that the Maltese should be 4-7 pounds. That is for show, of course and we have one champion who is about five and a half pounds. Sweetie is a bit bigger and should run about nine or ten pounds..
Even that is a relatively small dog as opposed to say my Goldendoodle who is 65 pounds or some other even bigger breeds.
Maltese are shown in full coats which reach to the ground.
However keeping a Maltese in full coat is a lot of work and most Maltese who are not being shown are kept in a shorter coat...
