I have an Epson 980 Photo Color Printer, the cost of ink for this printer is very expensive and the printer is in need of adjustment again. I will not be printing directly from the camera. Are there any multipurpose printers that print decent photos? The copier function would really come in handy. I would like to print good quality photos, with ink that lasts and isn't going to break me, possibly with cartridges that can be refilled. Any suggestions for which printer to buy Also are the generic inks any good?

Epson is indeed a very good photoprinter, but does your printer have all seperate colorcartridges...?? That will save a lot of money , I have a Epson 2100 with 7 cartridges but only 3 of them are used more than the other... So maybe it is an option to look for a printer with 1 cartridge per color and not 3 in 1..

We love our 4 (count 'em FOUR) Epson R200 photo printers.
Jerri does primarily event photography and we print photos onsite. We use one computer for digital image processing and another as a file and print server feeding the printers.
At a race track, we will run for 4 hours straight printing pictures as fast as possible to handle orders. At a fair, on "picture day" (when everybody decides to order) we will be printing for 10-12 hours straight.

The R200s are CHEAP and do a good job. The image quality is excellent even when on PHOTO vs BEST PHOTO mode. We have found G&G ink to be very good and consistent in them. In lots off 12 each cartridge costs about $3.80 (six colors).
We get our printers at Sam's Club for $79.00 (including ink) and have found Ilford Galleria paper to do the best. Ilford even has print profiles for them, though we use the default printer profile and find them to match up very closely.
With a little car and periodic cleaning, they keep chugging away. Bought in April, after 2 months they had more than paid for themselves. We can now afford to throw them away, but they keep on plugging away.
Hope this helps.
