***Posted this on another thread, so apologies for the repetition***

Evening everyone.

I have an iPod touch, one of my favourite apps is SmugWallet.

I'm shortly getting the HTC Desire and would love Android equivalents of SmugShot & SmugWallet.

Does anyone have any information as to whether those wonderful & talented developers are going to match their iPhone apps for the Androids?

I'd love to see an Android native app so I could upload videos and photos directly from my Nexus One.

I hope so. I will look at other solutions if there's no android app by my next renewal date. Maybe a picasa/youtube combination or something? Any suggestions along this line?

In a business full of iphones and ipads it "might" be hard to see the demand (remembering that Android based users of SM might not be as vocal as fanboys).

I'm not going to drop SM because of no Android app...and I'm sure they are aware that 99.8% of users aren't...it makes the app low on the pole for projects.

I'm hoping that now that their iphone app is working well and the children's computer* (aka the ipad) app is beautiful and working well they can focus on the Android app.

*I say kids computer because I heard five different podcasts last week where the ipad was referred to as their kids computer as the new has worn off and the annoyances of no flash (as so much is wrapped in flash) and editing google docs is a no go...I can't say as I have only seen one person with a ipad since it came out.

I use my iPad every single day and wouldn't live without it. It's my portable porfolio, library, and web and email tool, and so many other apps (yay, Flipboard, just awesomeness!).

Stay tuned on the other stuff :)

there were more android devices sold last quarter than all devices running iOS4 (including ipads and ipods). reportedly 200,000 android devices are getting activated everyday. if it's low on the pole then they simply aren't paying attention to reality.

If you gave me one I would love to use it...but I wouldn't pay 600+ for it...and my comment about the kids computer was just forwarding what I saw on some of the "bigger" tech shows.

Flipboard does look nice although taking data from others website in the manner they do seems to be close to thief but that topic is above my paid grade so I'll leave it to the big dogs to sort out.

To get back on topic, at least for my circle of friends and family (the ones who really look at my pictures from SM) they all use Droid based phones (and two BB) with one that owes a dumb phone, but bought a ipod touch (so I can see what my pictures look like on a iOS system)

So for me personally, the droid app will be wonderful...we use the mobile website, but it's about 80% workable and 40% for videos (on the Droid X videos work about half the time, on the HTC Incredible it's much higher percentage).

So for now when I want to show off my pictures I either upload them to my phone from my PC or I direct them to my website which uses WPtouch from bravenewcode which looks wonderful on a smart phone or ipad.

I don't get paid for saying this, but if you use WP for your website and you want a simple solution for getting your site on a mobile phone it's super easy with WPtouch.

Andy if you need a beta tester count me in (my primary job is a Library Systems Tech Coordinator)

I have that also, but it's not nearly as good as the iphone and ipad apps that SM has made for the apple users.

I got to play with a ipad last Monday and I asked the owner if I could download the SM app and it was awesome on the ipad and it also looks great on the iphone...the owner was impressed as well.

After I gave it back (man that thing is heavy to hold with one hand) my anger for no android app increased, but I've beat this horse here in the forums, on Facebook, on Twitter and with DM to the different folks at SM.

They say they are working on something...so I'm going to shut up about it as I'm becoming unprofessional in my posts.

I knew when I joined SM that they are fanboys not saying that's good or bad, but it does make them onesided. They will tell you that the majority of their users are fanboys as well (or at least the vocal ones) and the fact that not one person in their company uses any products other than apple products (computers, phones, ipads, etc)...I'm sure they test their products on other computers and browsers...I just don't understand why they can't buy the company some different android phones, blackberries and windows based phones to test their software.

I don't know how many people use SM (everyone should of course as it's the best out there) but surely as the base of people who are purchasing smartphones will be using iphone, android, blackberry, and windows based phones will start to be divided more evenly which means if you only develop for iphone you leave out a large portion of your customer based.

Maybe I'm totally wrong...but it would be cool to have all those users in a room and have a "show of hands"..looking only at the forums and meetups doesn't paint a realistic picture of users toys.

From the new SM homepage...either the developer agrees with us...or they are really working on something for Android

    :-)

Look under the "Even More" header to see this line
