It looks as though someone has gone through some of the challenge pics as posted them on another site.
It's not all bad as whoever it is gave the photographer credit, but I know I wasn't contacted for permission.

Photo's were posted by someone using the name Arlington.

saurora, curious camel, quark, awais yaqub and others have photos posted by this person. (to lazy to cut and paste them all)

Does anyone know who this "Arlington" is?

Here's the link, let me know what you think.

    Thanks Andy.

I'm still curious who Arlington is.
I really don't think any ill intentions were meant, they just went about it the wrong way.

Don't like that at all. This is precisely the reason I moved over to Smugmug from flickr. I had multiple photos taken and used while while I was on flickr (my photos were used on on personal blog sites and also *more alarmingly were available as wallpaper downloads). There was also a site called macrophotos.net where someone could have access to your flickr stream *with photos at large size resolution and could rewatermark directly on the site. Not real happy to see people doing this here also. How did you find this? Glad Andy is on top of it!:D

A friend and fellow Dgrinner, Grimace found it and sent me the link.
This isn't the first time it's happened to me, I sure it won't be the last.
The difference this time around though, the person that posted the shots gave the photographer credit for their work.
I really don't think this was any attempt to steal the shots. The person just went about it the wrong way.
For all I know, permission to use some of the other shots may have been given.
What I do know is, I wasn't asked.

I just checked, the photos have been taken down.

Everyone knows they can hide their pictures by making them private right? (at least on flickr). Then you just link to a lower res version of your pic for posting here.

I'm not sure if smugmug works the same way for referrers but with my flickr I can change the type of picture being referenced somewhere else to private and back to public and the link for the pic changes. Annoying but I don't have hundreds of pictures that get referenced from other sites. *shrugs* I kinda like being on the first page of google searches for "Sol Mealia Puerto Rico", "Polizia Car", and "Sniper on the Whitehouse roof" lol.

    Thank you Davev and Andy,
That seemed like a good reply no?

On a sidenote, can someone explain the following to me please. I only bring it up because i saw "Referrer's" written on this thread, and was curious about it.

I went to one of my albums "slices of life-the series" which I posted in "PJ/Street" recently. Out of curiosity I went to statistics and for the first time clicked on Referrers.
Now this is an album of my family and friends throughout the year, so obviously it's an album of loved ones.

When I hit referrals I clicked on some of them, and they are search engines in the Phillipines, Vietnam, and Poccnr.ne_nau.gif What's that all about? It leaves me concerned and I'm sure you know why. Should I make them all private, and if I do, you guys can't see them either? ne_nau.gif

    Liz,
i just checked mine as well and my images are showing up on other websites and not just search engines. AND they are no longer watermarked!

MODs, is this legal and what can be done about it?

My cousin sent me this link a long time ago. I had to search to find it again. It is a reverse photo search and will show you different sites that contain whatever photo you give it to look for.

also these guys tend to be pretty good with attribution, but sometimes the image might get to them through other sources then the original. such is the nature of the internets.

Thanks for the heads up. I just asked them to remove it. Although, I put this one up on flickr and it made the front page, so I shouldn't be surprised. The other photo of mine that made the front page, last fall, was also stolen left and right. In fact, I also just used tineye to find that pic posted up on deviantart, with a Creative Commons license, as the property of one of their users. DeviantArt tried to be tricky about taking it down, trying to make me document it all as if a lawyer was involved. But then I remembered that I had licensed that photo to Getty's. One email to Getty's and that photo was down in about 10 minutes.

Here is a site that is full of photos pulled from SmugMug all from the dailies I think. Also a lot from Flickr on there, but not as many as SmugMug.
