Once I figured out what I wanted to do, I didn't have to wait long. Quite a few people were walking by that spot and the problem was having too many most of the time. It's the only location close to where I live that offers direct low-angle light at sunset, so I hang out there a lot. I'm probably going to try to get some more variations to see if I can find a distance and angle that simplifies the background a bit.
