Hello All-

I have decided to treat myself to another metal print, this time a 10x20 panorama on metal :) I read through the help file at http://www.smugmug.com/help/print-quality and saw the minimum pixel size as 768x1280. That is easy enough to do as it is 4 3,000 x 4,000 pixel images stitched together. What I am trying to do is figure out the point at where I am looking at minimized returns and that it is high enough resolution to print. I am planning on uploading it to SmugMug and when I upload the unsized image, it is too large for my pro account, so I know I need to downsize it a little. The question I am having is how much? The second question is does it make a difference if I output it from Lightroom or Photoshop?

Thanks

How did you save it? Save the image at around 95% or PS10 or 9 and I'm pretty sure you should be able to upload it. I've uploaded images that were made up out of more separate images before headscratch.gif

Do not resize or change the pixels. Upload as many of the original pixels as you can and then print. We allow up to 48 Megapixels.

    300 pixels per inch for 20 inches = 6000

    300 pixels per inch for 10 inches = 3000

    3000 x 6000 = 18 MPixels for a standard 300 ppi density

    That should be plenty.

Thanks for the answers. I did not explain it well, but Ivar's answer got me heading the right direction. The too large is not the dimensions, it was the file size combined with operator error. When I was exporting it, I had the preset set to "maximum" which resulted in no compression other than layer flattening I think. So my original 407MB PSD file became a 24.36MB jpg file. I remember from previous panos that 24MB was the limit for my account. So I was trying to get under the 24MB limit. Once I found that error and checked the math, all good :)

Thanks for the help and sorry for the confusion. Now back to cleaning it up a little more for the print....
