Default Gallery Sorting?

I use iPhoto to handle my photos on my computer. Usually my iPhoto galleries are auto sorted by date oldest to newest. And when I export them through the iPhoto/Smumug exporter the Smugmug gallery is sorted the same way. I had just assumed that the Smugmug gallery's order was that way because of the order they were in iPhoto. Today I uploaded an iPhoto gallery that was manually arranged, and Smugmug made sorted them by date oldest to newest. Before I complain about this I wanted to make sure that this is in fact the "correct" behavior when uploading to a new gallery, and if so what would you all suggest as a best practice for not having to arrange photos twice, if possible. The sort order can be specified on the gallery settings screen. You specify both sort by and whether you want to sort in an ascending or descending order.

Is sort broken today? I've had two galleries uploaded in the past 24 hours that don't seem to be formatting (and I've tried different sort options):

If you're sorting by date taken, there is a known issue, in the thread Problems uploading date taken stripped.
