Slideshows?

So I have a friend who, as a bridesmaid, has to make a slideshow for her friend's wedding. She asked me if I knew of any way to make a good slideshow.

Since its been a very long time since I've made slideshows, I figured I'd ask the experts on dgrin on how they approach making slideshows. :D I never had to make a slideshow for wedding-related events but I do remember using iPhoto and even PowerPoint (that was horrible) for church slideshows... but again, they were done a very long time ago and I was wondering if I'm behind the curve again :scratch

I've seen things like Animoto being advertised but I'm not too sure if it is as good as they make it out to be. Any thoughts on that too?

Anyways, I'd appreciate it if you guys could shed some light into how you make your slideshows. I'm sure my friend would really be thankful... plus I'm looking forward to the replies so that I could learn a few new skills as well :D Thanks in advance!

I've had mixed reviews with my Animoto shows. Many people enjoy the "wow" factor, but for some, the quality of the photos gets lost in all the flash. I've had several folks tell me they prefer my simple Proshow Gold slide shows.

For simple quick stuff I have just been using iPhoto's tools to do it. There is also Windows Movie Maker. Both of which should be bundled with the OS. Slideshows can be simple with just a progression through some photos or very complex, so defining what is deisred can help. I also agree that Animoto is cool.

Thanks for the Animoto love. Feel free to DM if you'd like some Animoto swag.

As for the flashiness of our product, we recently rolled out Pro-exclusive styles that are more subdued:

But then I loose all the slide shows that I created in that time period if I decide to not go with it ne_nau.gif Don't know. I'm still not convinced. I am using an other site for my slide shows, 1 time fee (rather than a yearly fee), and I really like the fact that I can upload all the files to my ftp myself, and can keep them as long as I want. ne_nau.gif Just my opinion. thumb.gif

But I do like the new effects better, the older ones gave me flashy headaches. thumb.gif

There's a whole article on wedding slide shows here:

It's oriented around Photo to Movie, but gives some good general slide show advice and tips too:

If I understand this We are limited to about 10 minutes in total length or as long as the chosen music lasts.

If one signed up for a month at $39.00 is there any quantity limit?

Say I had 10 or 20 slide shows to do and could have them all ready to go, could I sign up for a month and then say wait until I had another batch to do rather than sign up for an entire year?
