Broken Nikon Lens

So I was out shooting today but noticed that the (plastic) MF/AF switch ring on my Nikon 80-200 f/2.8 AF-D (two ring version) was cracked :cry I attached a picture (on a side note, is it possible to shrink the attachment picture? sorry its so big).

I can still move it around to activate manual focus or auto focus, but if I'm not careful, the ring separates slightly. For now, I'm just gonna leave it on the autofocus mode.

Do any of you guys know how much it would cost to fix it? Or if I could do the repair myself?

Hopefully it's not too expensive to fix but if it is, I might just tape it down for the time being :dunno :cry

Sadly I think there are a lot of issues with the mf/af ring on these lenses... mine isnt cracked but the button is broken so I've got it taped into the autofocus position and it seems to work well. Sorry I dont have any better news/suggestions... Hope you find a way to get it fixed...

No idea on costs, but if you do decide to send it to Nikon service they should give you an estimate before repairs, so you get to decide if it's worth it.

No, I don't recommend that you attempt to repair it yourself.

I recently picked up a used 80-200mm 2.8... the switch was broken and so was the tripod collar, so I took it in for repair. It cost $150 (Canadian) to fix both issues, so I'd guess it would be around $100 or less.

    It's a great lens, unfortunately it seems soft at 200 @ 2.8, wish I had a D300 to fine-tune it...
