Mt Comfort Air Show

Last weekend the Air Show in Indianapolis was held at the Mt Comfort Air Port.
The Saturday show was cancelled due to rain, but Sunday made up for it. The weather tended to be quite humid, and the sky was grey at times, but they had some great warbirds to see. I had not previously attended this air show, but my son invited me, and it was a great excuse to spend some family time with him.
I shot the planes on the ground with a 5DMKii with a 24-105 IS, and the planes in flight with a 7D with a Tamron 200-500mm lens hand held from the public seats along the runway. I saved the files in MRAW and processed them via LR3 and CS4. Some of these images are not straight out of the camera, but straight out of my vision!
Five P-51s lined up on the tarmac, and three as a flight in the air.
One of only two remaining Harpoons in the world
If the tags are accurate, this Harpoon was a very deadly airplane for the Navy.
One of the remaining B-17s still flying around the country. For $475 you can get a ride in it. If you want to sit in the nose, it costs $600. I just enjoyed watching it fly.
The Yankee Lady
Here is The Yankee Lady with its "Little Friend", a P-51
The other plane that I really wanted to see was the Wart Hog, the A-10 tank buster.
I think this is an AT-6 or called a Texan
They also had several great aerobatic pilots and planes, monoplanes, biplanes, and twin engined monoplanes.
They had a great Wing Walking performance as well. Here is the Captain Morgan stance
Watching three P-51s flying in tight formation was just fantastic as was the sound of three Rolls Royce Merlin engines in flight
My son and I had a great time that afternoon. I look forward to doing it again.
Overall I shot about 1500 frames, and a few of them can be seen here - Please leave comments if you see anything you like, or dislike, or if I have labelled anything incorrectly.

I shot all the aerial views with th Tamron 200-500 in AIServo mode, at about f8, and the majority of my images are as posted. By necessity, I shot handheld, and the lens does not have IS.
It is not L glass, and it is sharper when shot at less than 500mm, but I have found it quite useful if shot with good long glass technique.
I actually did very little correction of CA in most of these images.
I own Canon L telephotos, but without tripods and gimbal heads, they are not much better at an air show, and a lot more inconvenient, in my hands. I would love a modern EOS 200-450 IS f4, but no such luck yet.

Tom
as to your thinking. You came away with some very nice shots.
Prop blur. You knew that. I'd go fast shutter and miss blur too +/- if I knew
what the score was. Some interesting results in some of the PP. Unusual
but highly interesting.

I tried to pick a favorite air show shot from your post, but can't do it. They're all awesome!

I also have the Tamron 200-500 and for the $$, IMHO, it is a pretty darn good lens! I use it with my Sony a700 and get what I feel are pretty good results.
I also went to an airshow at Fairchild AFB in Spokane, WA this last week end. I took about 1600 pics and am working through them. I have a few static pics that I will post later today.
Thanks for sharing your pics of the airshow. I love these events and really enjoy looking at all of the pics that I can!!

I enjoyed them all.
Amazingly clean sensor's too
+1 on that. These kind of shots really do show a dirty sensor. I am finding that out while processing my airshow pics!! I need to clean my sensor bad!

We had a plane like that..maybe the same one....in town. It was the same cost to ride in it. Would of been fun, but to expensive for me.
