Lightroom Workflow

Lightroom really helps with this workflow and I know one can set it up so i can run presets on more that one image at a time. What adjustments are recommended to be done in a batch?

If I take 100 images in a day how can I speed up the PP?
I know some adjustments have to be done on an individual basis but I'm trying to find some common ground to perform steps in batches.
If I have a choice I would like to sharpen multiple images if possible.

Thanks

I typically make white balance, clarity, vibrance, sharpening, noise reduction, and calibration changes in bulk, using the sync feature below the develop controls pane.

I also use a great, but somewhat hidden, feature under the Photo menu item to match exposure across multiple images. If EXIF data is available, this takes into account the exposure settings on the camera and sets all of the selected images to the same absolute exposure value by adjusting the exposure setting in develop. Note, this is very different from simply setting the exposure slider to the same value for each photo, which is what would happen if you synced exposure.

After making those bulk changes, I'll go into each individual image to fine tune the bulk changes, if necessary, and make exposure, recovery, black point, fill light, local adjustments, and artistic (e.g. vignetting) changes.

Where is said hidden feature? Is it in Library or Develop - I can't seem to find it to check it out......... headscratch.gif

in The Library Module, under the Photo Menu, go to Develop Settings and then to Match Total Exposure, or use shortcut "Ctrl+Alt+Shift+M"

Lightroom gives you a long list of ways to do this.

You can correct one image, go to another image, and use Paste Settings From Previous if you already know you just want to apply all of the same corrections you just did to the previous image.

You can do your corrections on one image, then select 100 images and hit the Sync button to spread that image's corrections across everything you selected.

You can turn the Sync button into an Auto Sync button so that as you adjust one image, all other selected images follow along with no extra work. So if you change the Sharpening amount to 50 on the active image, all other selected images change that setting to 50 too.

You can adjust one image and use the Copy Settings command so that you can pick out the exact settings you want to spread (e.g., just Sharpening). Then you select other images and do a Paste Settings.

You can save a group of settings (e.g., just one Sharpening setting or any combo) as a preset so that it can be applied at any time to any images.

You can designated a preset as a default for import so that as your images come in from the camera your preferred settings are already applied before you even start touching them!

You can set it up so that there are different defaults for different cameras and ISO speeds. For example automatically apply more default noise reduction to higher ISO images.

There is just so much flexibility in that program.

    WOW!! I guess so.
I need to get busy and start reading, MORE!!rolleyes1.gif
It's amazing how much information is involved with all this stuff. Between PS, lightroom, Gimp, plus all the photography related stuff. I feel like I'm barely putting a dent in things.eek7.gif

Thanks. Added point for anybody else who tries this: it's greyed out if you only have ONE image selected (and because it's right at the bottom, kind of invisible, which is why I didn't see it when I checked before!)
