On one of the edging stones that run along the path from the end of the drive to the house.


Tried a stack too, but preferred a single frame with the shallow DoF, to concentrate on the eyes. Natural light this evening, no extra help, hence longer shutter speed, and the need for a patient spider!

what a face. I've always wanted to find a female with all her babies on her back. She carries them around for a while (I forget how long) until they can survive on their own, all the while not hunting or eating. It's quite a sight...tiny spiderlings crammed together. Before that she carries her egg sac with her and again, doesn't eat. One of these days I'll come across one again.

I have seen plenty of clusters of baby spiders from the orbs in the shrubbery, it's an unusual, if common sight.
