The Twin Lakes of Kyun Tso

Two lakes, separated by less than a mile, like sisters.
One Brakish, one sweet.
Sitting silently at 5012m(16440 feet) above sea level. Nobody comes here, except for the odd nomad.
The track is tough, with sand traps, and there were no maps... till now
One is frozen








The other one is surrounded by soft quicksand


You cannot see them together, except form here


If you get lost, you can ask the Kiang. There is nobody else here

Yes, at this altitude, permanent settlement is impossible day temperatures with sun shining touch -20 degrees C in winters.
In summers the nomads camp here sometimes, but never for long.Even they prefer the lower 4200 altitude at the banks of the river as it provides fresh water.

Thanks! Actually we spent very less time there due to high altitude.
Last night had been spent at 4200mts above sea level. In the morning, both of us(me and wife) had slight headache due to altitude.
Since 9:45am we had been driving, and last 3 hours had been spent at 4800 pr above.
So in this area above 5000mts above sea level, we spent only 1.5 hours or so before descending

I looked up Kyun Tso on a map. It certainly is isolated! Great place to shoot some pics, if you can get there.

Wikimapia has them mapped. One of the twin lakes is called Chilling Tso, and the other is called Ryul Tso.
