Thunderboats
I love shooting these powerful noisy boats. There is a Thunderboat regatta every fall in San Diego's Mission Bay. This year the Thunderboats will be racing from 17-19 september.

I shot these images using a Canon 10D with 400mm f/5.6L. The camera/lens was mounted on a Giottos MT-8180 carbon fiber tripod with a Manfrotto 3421 Gimbal Head. IMO, this head is absolutely great for large and heavy lenses. My biggest lens is the 400mm f/5.6L but, I have loaned the 3421 to a friend who has used it successfully with his Canon 500mm f/2.8L which is a pretty big lens in anyones book.

#2 looks fast and intimidating. Nicely done.
The last one is about to get airborne... One day one of these boats "flew" right up onto the shore... Where I was standing the day before!
Nice images
