MC8 - Economic Ascension

Like many of you, I've been struggling with this challenge. That and too much work in real life has kept me from proactively shooting for this theme. I finally got out today with the express intent of getting something for the MC. My thought was to express the emergence of China onto the work stage primarily through the power of it's economy. I'd appreciate your thoughts on whether these images express this concept effectively.

#2 is my favorite of the shots (gawow!) but.... there's nothing in it to specifically say "China" :(
ETA! Wait! I just saw the sign in the background!! That makes this the tingtingting shot, IMO.

    Wait. They're in colour.

I like the first one, of the buildings emerging from the fog, although it doesn't say China...

Here's a full square crop of the "Super Brand Mall" shot. Lots of location references. Still work? I have a few versions of this with different patterns of people passing through.

Thanks Tatiana. I purchased an ND filter specifically for this challenge. I'd imagined daylight shots of flowing people exiting something and I had a vague idea of a few locations where I could get it. I didn't have the chance to explore them all, but it's encouraged me to try some different ideas.

You haven't been looking at the Street forum much recently, eh? I'm playing and colour is a part of it. It's just always been difficult to figure out how to use it in the storytelling.

I think it's because of the "Swiss" part - I try to spell it Auf Deutsch. Sawwwwwwwwwwwwyyyyyyy.... :hide rolleyes1.gif

I like the new crop, too - either way, that photo is a cracker thumb.gif

Don't like #4 (as it is) as much as #2, which is the best of the 1st 3.
Instead of a full square crop how about cropping just above the Chinese characters, it won't be a standard aspect ratio but you get the immediacy of the first version with sufficient additional information to get you idea across without the unnecessary and "empty" area at the top of the 2nd version.

Last two. I can get the first to match the second if the composition works better.

    #6 for me.
I find the group of 3 obviously taking a photograph in #5 to be distracting.

6, but with some PS (or program of choice) perspective adjustment to straighten out the pillars. Otherwise, thumb.gif

I like #6 because it has more space in the foreground - comparing to #2, but I personally
like the crop of the top in #2
