So, here is the official gallery to give your C&C for DSS#53

Gallery Here...

Once more into the fray. This unofficial feedback thread is a catch-all of sorts, lets make it happen

Anyway, let's start feedback on DSS #53!!

This thread is:
  • a place to post a list of your top ten favorites. (be heard, and let everyone know what images moved you.)
  • a place to post your "the making of my image"
  • a place to ask someone "how did they do that?"(for us all to see )
Feedback is an important part of the photographic process. While those selected as finalists get feedback from the judges and those who vote, others are never quite sure where they stand. So share your thoughts both in this thread and with comments in the actual gallery. Constructive criticism should always be welcome.

It's easy to post thumbnails (with help from our Moderator).

With the image selected in the gallery, copy its URL from your browser, add "-Th.jpg" to the end, delete the jumble of numbers and letters preceding the hashtag (#), change "gallery" to "photos" and that's it.

Example

Change this url
http://challenges.smugmug.com/Other/DSS-44/11173146_XPbWE#784726765_MXFDd

To this (minus the space in the IMG tags)
http://challenges.smugmug.com/photos/784726765_MXFDd-Th.jpg

Happy Feedbacking

I'm not even going to try to post the photos - can't do it and it'll save Sean the work.

    My favorites:

DsrtVW - Young Heart/Old Soul - beautiful portrait, very clean, clear, great light
Swelldays - Inner Compass - spectacular viewed in large!
Airthom - Untrained Boys - Great comp - love the lighting!
Aspecto5 - Wisdom is Strength - cool comp, good light, nice tonal quality
Whatshesaw - Huh? - funny idea, nice execution
ic4u - Why? - cute idea, nice light

    Good luck everyone!

What I really wanted was to find a lamb to photograph......with the child, the white dress, and the lilies. Perhaps she could wear a pearl, too. I thought that was about as much symbolism as I could cram into a photo. Laughing.gif. We took this photo in the backyard with a few pieces of fabric hanging off the clothesline as backdrops. Between keeping lilies in place on the crown, not crushing the lilies, mosquitoes, 95% humidity, the dog constantly bringing his ball to be thrown, wind, changing the backdrop, minor normal kid fidgeting, phewwww....a lamb would have been just plain too much. We took 80 shots in 20 minutes, 5 of which turned out quite well. This one here, though, was probably the best for the contest. It was the very first one we took.
My heart goes out to plein air painters.....at least with plein air photography, the length of time spent actually outside to capture a subject is rather short.

I played with my image, adding a darker background as suggested by some, just to see what it would look like. I like it! Diva, I agree regarding the spectral highlight...thought it might have added to the image and that just shows how much I have to learn about what makes a photo look good. I need to work on my selection/masking methods as well. (banging head against keyboard) Here's the image modified:
