I swear 'They' wait for me to do some modifications to bring the system.

No system update explaining why system is in read mode *again*

Upgrades and system improvements are all well and good. But someone should show these people how to do proper testing before going live.

Not feeling like a happy camper this evening.:bluduh

Never fails...when I post tourney pictures after a weekend of shooting...people come to view and purchase...SMUGMUG DIES. In and out of read-only and people get error messages. I'm sure that gives them a ton of confidence in ordering pictures through me. The timing couldn't have been worse. Thanks a lot Smug! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

We're sorry that we had an issue that caused us to use read-only mode. We did post on our Status Blog: http://status.blogs.smugmug.com/

The problem is resolved, I'm very sorry for the hassle.

Andy, I was feeling quite frustrated last night when I posted that. FWIW, there was no Status blog update for at least 30 minutes prior to my post.

These outages are becoming much more frequent in the last few months. Or so it seems. Their frequency adds to the feeling of frustration .

In any case, I do appreciate your feedback. Thanks.

    And failures this morning
Think the poor little hamsters are overloaded this morning :) Multiple upload failures, images taking 10 mins to process when I do manage to get one up.

Ah ... upload fails again .. error 500 or some such from LR3's latest Smugmug plugin.

I'll try again when the little workers have had breakfast.

    UPDATE:

Ok, been 45 mins and images still not processed. Hamsters are on strike I guess.

You sure its fixed?? I am still getting site issues.
"A photo is like a hamburger. You can get one from McDonalds for $1, one from Chili's for $5, or one from Ruth's Chris for $15. You usually get what you pay for, but don't expect a Ruth's Chris burger at a McDonalds price, if you want that, go cook it yourself." - me

New user here -- I think I picked the wrong night to start an SM trial run. Do the in & out of read only mode and the hangups in uploading/processing happen often, or is this a recent thing associated with the google bot problems and system update snafus referenced over the past week in SM's status blog? Trying to decide if I should plunk down the subscription $.

    TIA for any input.

I'll check with ops today to see what happened overnight, I'm sorry for the hassle folks - all is well at the present moment.

@Glib - we're entering our 9th year soon and our record of performance is rather excellent. Things happen from time to time - we do our best to fix things fast and we usually do. It's not normal to have this happening repeatedly, no.

Smugmug outages and downtime percentages can be and are debated. What I can say from my perspective is that the good, by far, outweighs the bad. I'd also say it's safe to sign up, because if Smugmug stagnated in development right now, it would probably take the competition your year to catch up in features.

Take it from a complainer, stay. iloveyou.gif

Thanks for the info, fellas. I've heard great things and love what SM offers. Glad to hear the downtime issues haven't been a major drag. Working in the web biz, I know first hand we all have downtime every now and again. I'm sure I'll be signing up after playing around a little more.

    Thanks again.
