Hi y'all.

yesterday was the last day of Sail Amsterdam 2005, and today the sailingships went back to sea again.
I took my camera to the harbour city of IJmuiden and watched the ships head for open water, one after the other.

Bye,
Peter Dumont

I made these pics from the southern pier of the seaport of IJmuiden, which stretches some 2000 meter into the sea.

I was standing at the outmost end of that pier, and the distance between me and the tallboats was about 50-70 meter.

The good part was that on leaving the harbour, these ships for the first time, while here in holland, displayed their sails.

    It was a gorgeous sight.

    Bye,
    Peter Dumont

Any one of the smallest sails is probably 2x the size of the smaller
    vessel's sail area :)

    Thanks for a second look!

The last one is the most 'natural'. Somehow it is weird seeing these majestic ships in the middle of water... with no sails ! You'll never see something like that on the old master's paintings ! mwink.gif

Most of my pics were taken from near that green striped lighthouse.

A man next to me was loudly complaining about small boats getting in the way when he wanted to shoot a big boat.
Since there were many boats in the water his lamentation just kept on going louder and louder with every boat that "got in his way".

I told him to photoshop :pissed .

Since Prince Pils allready ran one tallship aground on opening day, they would only allow him to steer this mini trawler .
If you look close, you can see him sitting in the cabin.rolleyes1.gif
