Here's a few shots I took this weekend at a game for the San Jose Men's Senior Baseball Leage that made their Photo of the Week :-)

    Great shots.

You've inspired me. There's a big Men's Senior Baseball League here in Atlanta. It's been several years since I've shot any of their games, but I'm going to check out the schedules and get back out there.

Thanks Kent...glad I could inspire you :-) This league out here is pretty fun...19 teams filled mostly with ex college and minor league players so the talent and competition are pretty good.

    Cheers,

Kent (or anyone)...quick question. If you have any experience shooting in the evening under the lights? I'll be back on the field shooting their All-Star game in a couple of weeks which has a 7:30pm start time so we'll have some late evening sun and transitioning into the statium lights. Now this is a decent facility with good lighting, however I'm having a hard time deciding what lens setup to use here?

Was thinking about using a Canon 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L but then it occured to me that I might be better off using a 70-200 f/2.8L with a 1.4x TC? I just fear that 280mm with the TC is not going to be quite long enough, however the faster lens should be more advantageous for the lighting.

    What do you think?

    Cheers,
    John

I would expect that you'll not have much luck with the f/4.5-5.6 lens. Your shutter speed is going to be too slow with that lens after dark, even with stadium lights.

Anytime the sun goes down, or I'm in a poorly lit gymnasium, I have an f/2.8 on my cameras.

For baseball, day or night, I use a Canon 400 f/2.8L on one body and a 70-200 f/2.8 on the other.

If you can get in one of the dugouts, the 70-200 should do well covering the infield.

Keep in mind, with the 1.4 TC, you're going to lose an f-stop and be right back in a problem with shutter speed.
