You asked, and we're delivering. Thanks to all our loyal customers for sticking with us! Power customers can now upload 1080p HD videos to their SmugMug accounts.

This was #5 on our feature request list.

Enjoy!

    AWESOME!
I just got the e-mail alert from my subscription on the UserVoice page.

Thanks so much for adding this, it really adds value and will let me post all of my content in one place. I'll definitely be continuing to recommend SmugMug to my friends (one of them just signed up this week, and he'll be happy that the "it's great for photos but you can't do HD video" is now a thing of the past, especially since he has an HD camcorder)

Do the usual video limits (600MB, 10 min max) apply the Power HD videos?

Thanks - it was my No1!
Thanks, this was the one thing I felt the Pro account lacked! As usual you keep on delivering.

Does this mean that the 1080 I've already uploaded will be viewable, or has it already been downsized, and require re-uploading?

Older vids would have to be reuploaded.

Thanks for adding HD support for power users! Between this and fixing the iPhone video orientation bug, I can start using SM for my videos.

    Very nice clap.gif

I paid for a Pro subscription at $149.95 per year just so that I could upload HD video. So it looks like now I can save $90 per year when my subscription is up for renewal.

Perhaps you are you going to offer something extra regarding video for Pro subscribers?

The shopping cart & selling prints doesn't offer anything to those of us outside the US as shipping costs for timely delivery are killing so a Pro subscription for those features is worthless. If you had a photo lab partner in Europe the $90 would be worthwhile.

    Cheers

So I'm not the only one who thinks like this... :D The only difference left between Power and Pro for someone not into commerce is the 24 MB photo file size limit.

    Some ideas to boost Pro:
    • SmugVault could be an included feature at no extra charge.
    • Keeping original video file.
    • TIFF file uploading.
    • More than 600 MB and 10 min. limits for video.
I relize that the commerce stuff is well worth the $90 to the "real" pros and maybe there aren't many of us who were on Pro for the video... But a guy can dream, right?

    Great news!

I will be downgrading from Pro to Power, but you did save a customer with this move. I couldn't justify another year at $150 just to get HD video, and was researching where else I could move to get everything I wanted.

    (new?) issues with video player
    Hi Andy,
I am very happy to see HD video on Smugmug! The old video quality was nice but I really wanted 720p as a minimum and you more than delivered on this.
The addition of HD video seems to have created or uncovered some bugs with the video player though.
I tried searching the forums but didn't manage to find any other threads covering this, but apologies if I missed it.

1/ When clicking on a video to play it, the player will always default to the highest resolution, even if the video is larger than the available screen size in the browser. It should use the largest size that can be displayed or should resize down (it can scale up in full screen, so I guess it can scale down) since it doesn't make sense to have to scroll while watching a video. e.g. my laptop has 1280x800 display, and the browser has about 600 pixels vertical available after the toolbar and start menu etc take some. This means 720p video and 1080p video doesn't fit on the screen and you have to then click on the mid-def for it to fit.

2/ If you exit from full screen mode by clicking the esc key while a video is playing the video area is blank even if the video is still playing. The sound keeps playing though.

Both bugs can be reproduced on Windows XP with FF and IE and Windows 7, with FF and IE.

I hope your wizards can have a look into this for the next upgrade.

    Cheers
    Phil
