On the back of the flash it should read, "EF-530 DG Super EO-ETTL II". If it says anything else it is designed for another manufacturer's body.

If it is a compatible unit, make sure to slide it completely onto the shoe and make sure that the wheel clamp is reasonably tight.

Does the pilot light come on, indicating that the flash charges correctly?

Can you trigger the flash manually?

The 7D is also capable of wireless flash control using the camera as the master/transmitter, so you might try basic operations that way too.

Thank you ziggy53, as I knew you would come to my rescue! :)
Yes, it is the flash you speak of.

And actually I figured out the problem........I had newly charged batteries in......changed them out and everything is working fine now. Looks like I might have some defective batteries...as they are brand new and were just fully charged....hmmm.......

Feel kinda silly now........:) Thank you so much ziggy53 for your time....always appreciate the help here!

some batteries do not have enough 'oomph' to power the flash. can you share the brand that you were using?

I use eneloops on mine and never let me down yet :)
