Life Magazine was one of the best photo magazines of its era and arguably of all time.

Henry Luce proposed Life's purpose as "To see life; to see the world; to eyewitness great events; to watch the faces of the poor and the gestures of the proud; to see strange things--machines...". Life became that and more. Life has come and gone over the years and it inspired Look Magazine and I'm sure others.

If you are at all interested, a PDF of the proposal is available on Chase Jarvis' site.

The proposal is worth a read.
