Missing Plug-in when playing Smugmug video in Chrome

When trying to play a video I uploaded using the Chrome browser version 5.0.375.99, I get the error in Smugmug: "Missing Plug-in".

It plays OK in Firefox 3.6.6 and 32-bit IE 8.0.7600.16385.

Flash version: 10.1.53.64.

I tried clearing the Chrome internet cache and restarting it, but the error persists on all Smugmug videos I've uploaded.

It would appear to be a Chrome problem, but I'm posting this in case anyone else has encountered it or could offer a suggestion.

Windows Home Premium 64 bit
Motherboard: EVGA P55 FTW
CPU: Intel i7-860 @ 3.8Ghz, RAM: 8GB DDR3
System disk: 300GB Velociraptor, 10k rpm SATA
Data disk: 1.5TB Barracuda, 7200 rpm SATA
Video: EVGA nVidia GeForce GTX-275, driver: 8.17.12.5721
Network: AT&T 6 megabit DSL (6 megabit down 512 kilobit up).

I would guess that Flash isn't properly installed for Chrome. I'd suggest you reinstall Adobe Flash to make sure that it gets installed for all your browsers.

I removed Flash player via Win7 add/remove programs, re-installed and it still doesn't work. I then removed it via the Adobe uninstall utility, re-installed it, and still doesn't work. I then repeated both steps, rebooting the machine after removing and before re-installing, and it still doesn't work.

We'll look into it. Chrome is not yet fully & officially supported by us, but will be one day. I'm sorry for the hassle.

    Hi Joe,

It does appear to be a bug. I have reported it to the programmers.

Thanks very much for the rapid response.

I've usually used Chrome with Smugmug, and this is the first time this problem has happened. It's now consistent and loading a video always fails in Chrome.

It did not happen with Chrome 5.0.375.70. I'm now running 5.0.375.99, so maybe something in Chrome changed, not just Smugmug.

Chrome beta (which I'm not running) has a built-in Flash player, but it's only activated with a command-line switch. If I have time I'll test that.

    same issue
I'm experiencing the same problem as reported with the same version (5.0.375.99) - I will report to Google as well. Meanwhile, I suppose I can use IE for Smugmug videos.

I am having the same issue. It should be noted that the latest version of Chrome uses a special version of Flash that is integrated with the browser. Uninstalling and installing flash should not have any effect.

As Doc said, it's a known issue. At this point, please use a different browser. Thanks.
