Is this how you would crop this. I must say I like it cropped much better myself.

I either don't really like the picture or I feel like the original is better.

Now the picture is just too grainy at 6400 iso more impact but good bye. If I was better I could get rid of the devil eyes.

#1 and #3 are my favs. For me, The Fill Flash of #2 and #5 removes the "natural" quality one expects from a sporting event photograph. #4 and #6 just don't quite have the impact of #1 and #3 (I do appreciate the wild eye look in #6 ... reminds me of the ex).

Remember that the eye is attracted to bright, (white elements in a photograph), things. In #1, I think that you already super photo can be a enhanced a bit by a tighter crop. Getting rid of much of the bright areas at the top of the image and eliminating most of the distracting judge on the horse at the right would delivery greater isolation to the principal element and draw the viewer deeper into the image.

    + 1 on #1& #3.

You got the depth of field right, but it's hard to get rid (or diminish) the background much since they're so close.

Looks like you had a good angle.

Great first attempt, now crop them down to nothing but the action, I think you will like them even better.

Great first attempt. I agree they need to be cropped dow a bit. I like #5 it is cute and love the intesity on the face of the little boy, but it also looks like he is riding a demon sheep because of the eye reflection. Change the eyes of the sheep to black and I would absolutly love #5.

Thanks for the response. I hope you get a chance to look at the photo's I cropped. Please let me know your thoughts. I struggle with cropping due to standard photo sizes.

The crops are an improvement. Photos don't have to be standard sizes. In fact the farther away from 'standard' you get .... the more impact your photos will deliver.

PS- Next time crop in the camera :):

    Thanks Gary,
I guess because I use SmugMug I thought the best would be to leave them standard sizes. After cropping I like them better myself.
I was already as close as I could get. I needed to be using a longer lens not sure that the 300 would have been close enough and starting at 8 pm is not alot of help with crappy lighting.

    Thanks for the comments.
It makes the ones I wasn't sure about not worth having and the ones I liked even better.
    Thanks again.
Maybe someday I will be as good as the rest.ne_nau.gif

Don't worry about being as "good as the rest of us" ... just work on your personal best and besting your personal best each time you shoot.

    Thanks Gary,
Though my personal best gets better the closer I can get to the pros.
I think I can take a picture of most things. Making it something people will purchase is where I fall.
Someday I will learn photoshop. It is just one of those programs that takes more time than I have.

I use PS as a polishing program (selective dodging and burning, cloning dust, cropping and final sharpening. I use DPP as my initial RAW converter and for global manipulation. Start start simple with PS and learn those basic tasks (above) and you're on the way. After a while you can add new tools to master.
