    Gavia immer - one of my favourite birds. A friend has a camp on a lake up in Maine, and the loons were a common feature until about fifteen years ago when the town decided to put in a boat ramp.

    No more loons, just the lunatic yahoos with their sodding water-skis and stinking speedboats!

    Bah!
