Bottle Rocket

I put up a squirrel feeder with a bottle of sunflower seeds, corn, and peanuts. A squirrel rocketed in to it.

OK, I figured this time of year no one's looking at photos that aren't of fireworks.

rolleyes1.gifroflrolleyes1.gifThis is a hoot -- these buggers will go into anything to get to the seed. I'm going to have to build one of these...great idea thumb.gif

This particular feeder is one I bought from a roadside stand in Tennessee on a recent trip up north. I've had so much fun watching the squirrels in it that I built two more. One for my daughter and one for my son. For the ones that I built, I used old mason jars (this is a gallon pickle jug) and rough cedar. With the mason jars, I used dowels to hold them in place rather than the wood supports on this one.

The squirrels still fit completely in the quart jars. The only problem is keeping it filled. The squirrels will finish off the contents in one day. The side benefit is that the squirrels now leave my bird feeders alone.

Just what I need. They keep emptying our bird feeders and breaking them too. I like the gallon pickle jar idea -- easier to see them in there.

Thanks for telling me how you made it :D

That's funny, Tony!! Great shot... thanks for sharing! I also feed the squirrels... and chipmunks, birds, and raccoons. They are almost tame now!!

Here's some older shots. Sorry about the low quality. I took them before I got into photography with a borrowed cheap HP camera. I need to get some new ones with my new camera.
