Uploading problems

Recently I have noticed a sharp decline in upload speed and a rise in error messages.
For example, tonight I am uploading pictures and getting messages such as
-insufficient data written
-error writing request body to server
-write time out
-connection time out
I also upload to youtube and that does not appear to be affected.
Are these problems with smugmug or with my isp? Any thoughts.
I used to upload at around 500 kb/s, now it is about one quarter of that on smugug.

    Hello Paul wave.gif
We are sorry to hear that you are experiencing uploading problems. We see quite a few, of what may be connection related errors, in your upload log. Although, these errors actually appear to be consistent with something blocking your uploading. Not a connection issue.

Please contact us on the Help Desk and let us know which Firewall and anti virus application you have installed on your PC? There a few firewalls that have settings, that can adversely effect uploading to Smugmug. Two we see most problems with are, AVG 9.0 and its Active Surf Shield and ESET NOD32 and its http filtering setting. If you are using one of these firewalls. Let us know. We can give you directions for overcoming these problems.

If neither of these pertain to you. Then has anything change recently? We see you have almost 36,000 photos uploaded. So uploading appears to have worked well for you in the past. Is this a new computer? Has any updating occurred? Have you changed ISPs? Or moved to wireless network connection? Also please make sure you have a fairly recent version of java installed (release 6 version 15 as a minimum).

If there is still no reason you can see for the problem. You can also try another uploader, or two, to see if there really may be a connection issue.

If you are still unable to upload we will need you to run a few tests to help us determine if and where any problems may lie.

Again, no need to post your reply here. You can reply to us at the Help Desk. You can even add an Attn: Cavig to the subject line. This will help make sure your message gets to me, directly.
