    All lenses sold in the US are imported, in that none is manufactured there. There is no difference in the quality. The difference is only in warranty support. A US warranty is a good idea if you spend most of your time in the US, but is quite irrelevant for people who don't (like me, for example).

    I spoke to Canon recently who confirmed that their lens warranties are worldwide - all that is required is proof of purchase/receipt. I made a significant saving ($300) buying a grey import 24-105mm F4L lens which was shipped from HK with security seal intact.

    I believe that warranties for Camera bodies are region specific.

    Over the last 30 something years of photography......I have bought several grey market pieces of equiptment
    and so far have never had a problem........now on hight dollr items I will see if I can get a 3rd party warranty
    and the price if it is still a great savings then I buy GM......if the savings is really close then I buy non GM.
