Hi Everyone!
Just having second thoughts on what to enter:scratch. I already have one submitted, but was wondering if perhaps the actual crying shot is stronger? Here is a link to a couple of others if you have time to take a peek!
Thanks so much folks! :lust

The last photo is the one I've submitted, I think #2 (the crying shot) might be stronger visually...
Any feedback at all is greatly appreciated!!!!!!

…might it not be stronger if the milk container were laying on its side?

    (…just a suggestion)

I like that second one a lot--where the baby is actually crying.

    HI Kelly,
As entries hit the gallery, I write my comments to keep up with them. Here's my thoughts on your current entry, for what it's worth.

Kidzmom—“It’s Nothing To Cry About”—very, very nice!!! I am becoming such a fan of your stuff. Not only are you images physically composed so well, but the lighting is terrific. I love how you allow parts of the face to get right to the hairy edge of blowing out, but bring it back just enough. The vignette effect is also wonderful, pushing me to the center of the frame, and as always, this particular model that you use, always seems to have a winning expression. :o) The only thing that I see, is the bottle is upright and capped. To me personally it says setup, because I start thinking how did the milk spill, then did the baby recap the bottle? That aside, another winner!

THANKS so much everyone for the input! So +1 for the crying baby instead..and +2 for an open or tipped bottle. Froch, I'm very flattered with your kind comment (as I too adore your images). Would you personally go with what is in the gallery now or would you tend to favor the crying babe instead? I'm thinking the crying one might be a bit stronger visually as it incorporates 3 words: crying, spilled and millk. As for the open bottle...YEAH, right, lol! When dairy cows fly--hee hee :) As much as I love a challenge (and I do) I just wasn't willing to deal with THAT much spilled milk (we'd both be crying)! :) I figured I'd add the bottle so that one would actually know what was in puddle was actually milk (and the t-shirt to stress the theme of course :) I can't tell you how many times during the shoot that he did actually tip over the bottle (thus why the cap was on). I do agree that in a perfect world the cap off would have worked better. I suppose I could photoshop that, but I think the cliche is still there, but yes definately posed...very very definately!!! Lets just say, the milk was spilled...the cap was repositioned and all was well in the world of post-photo cleanup :)

There doesn't have to be a lot of milk in the bottle. A small residual would do.

I agree that the crying baby is better for the photo.

Let me just say....no guts no glory. Laughing.gif. Just kidding.

As far as whether the image should include crying or not, that's definately your call. :o) But, for me personally, I like the idea of him not crying. I think the title, coupled with the cliche' gives way for that great expression on his face. That kid is just too cute! Laughing.gif. Bottom line is both images are winners. Good Luck!

Thanks Froch! :) He's my very favorite model at the moment (definately not the easiest, but nonetheless a definate favorite ;)). You know, I was all set to delete this photo and enter the crying shot until you came back at me with your comment. I think it was the look he gave me and the mood here that drew me in. I could probabally do another 10 shoots and not get that same moment (this is what I love about photography). I feel it is a treasure and personally favor this shot over any of the others. Plus the cliche is "no use" crying as you noted. Hmmm.. still need to mull this one over! Thanks EVERYONE for your valuable input. I'm even more confused now, lol! ;) But really-- thank you.

Ha! Funny. I know almost everyone has said to go with the crying shot, but bottom line (and why I entered it a week ago) is I love the other shot! Maybe it is just maternal instint to not like the crying shot as much (I feel like I should go pick him up), but I was thrilled to read you liked the inital entry much as I did. I'm still debating over entering the cry-shot or keeping things as they are. I can completely see why I'm getting more feedback to enter the crying shot. It is just hard for me to go with a photo that I don't like as much... but bottom line, if is a stronger entry I should probabally switch. No guts no glory, eh....

Ok if you have a truck load of salt to hand I'll dive in with my thoughts.
Either of the two shots would make great entries with great comp & lighting in both.

The crying shot whilst great doesn't work quite as well imho because the bottle isn't lying open on the ground. If it was (could you reshoot with an empty container?" then it would say he'd been caught in the act.

The current entry works with the bottle as it is because despite how improbable (or impossible) it is I can imagine that he was playing with the bottle, took the cap off, knocked it over and then righted it and put the top on just before you saw him - hence the "what me? I didn't do anything" look. Maybe I'm just regressing to how I was as a child :D.

As I said the use of a truck load of salt is advised.

Thank you Peter for your opinion. No salt needed. I'm happy to hear I have at least one more vote for the "what me" look. I'm the mom, so obviously that is the one I liked more. You are right about the crying shot needing the tipped bottle. I may consider a reshoot with a tipped over (and empty) bottle. THANKS again for your valuable input. Much appreciated :)
