I went through some older images and pulled this one out. This bird was trying to snag a chipmunk of all things on the wall. Back and forth he went trying to catch the poor little guy and failed his attempt. Now the strange thing is that I have never seen them go after little mammals before always fish. This guy must have been hungry for anything that day.

Anyway, he stood on the pond wall and opened wide.

    No kidding, this bird tried for almost 45 minutes and gave up, but the chipmunk sure was chirping at the BCHN, like saying come and get me.

    Just enough head tilt.

    I'll bet you struggled with how to crop this one. Tighter...and you miss too much of the fine detail in the feathers...include the feet and the not so desirable perch comes in to play.

    If the feet are nice, I might consider a composite with a more desirable perch....if possible.

    Yes this was one that I really had no room to play with at all, just a slight crop from the bottom and no feet in this shot. I was looking at a tighter crop but did not like the results, and so ended up with this version of the image.

    On the comp I would have composed it so that you were higher up on the subject. If you're gonna leave out the feet you don't want to show the start of the legs on the bod.

    Thanks Harry, as you have mentioned I think that you are bang on about that and I could take a bit off the bottom. Thanks for pointing that out to me.
