Viet Nam 2010
2 years ago, I posted about a trip to Viet Nam for a wedding. Well, I just re-visited Viet Nam about 2 weeks ago. We went there just to visit family and I also had my brother and his family come with us. Also, I had a friend (Raam Dev - http://raamdev.com) tag along that had just traveled through India.
Aside from United Airlines having a problem with a leak in the oxygen tank as we were flying above Alaska (left from Chicago) and had to turn to Seattle (3 hours) and our next flight didn't leave till 3pm the next day, it was still a nice 2 week vacation.
We visited family in Saigon, Binh Duong and Hue. We also made some day trips to Cu Chi, Vung Tau and Tay Ninh.
Below are a few photos from the trip. I took a lil over 2200 photos and my wife took close to 1000. Also between my brother and friend one can add another 3000 photos for an overall count of nearlyl 8000 photos taken.
My nephew is teaching my wife's cousin how to play the Nintendo DS. He enjoyed the game system very much and we also were able to purchase a few games for him while there.
Our first meal at the Uncles house in Saigon. We weren't the best at using chopsticks but over time we improved....
Nap time in the MeKong Delta. We took a Sinh Tourist (Sinh Cafe) tour to the MeKong Delta area. Nice tour... definitely a bit different than my first one in 2001
Two Chinese girls on our MeKong Tour
My brother and his family with their lunch. Not sure my lil nephew is fond of the food he is about to eat.
On our way to Binh Duong. I took quite a few photos out the side of our vehicles. Most didn't turn out to great, but I wanted to remember what I saw. Add many photos similar to this one, but I as shot, there were many factors that didn't help: bumps while riding in the bus, random scooters would ride through my photos and every now and then a tree jumped into the photo.
Hmm.... didn't know my sister had a building in Saigon
The Girl we helped in 2008 get her lazy eye fixed. Her surgery ended up only costing $100.00. Later that day we were taking a walk to one of her Aunt's homes. A few minutes into the walk and I felt a lil hand reach for mine. As I glanced to my left I saw Nhi holding on to my hand. I of course melted and my brother turned around, "David, you got a new friend?" No... she's been my friend since 2008. She and I have talked hours to each other in 2008 & 2010 but neither of us can understand one word said. Too bad she's over 9,000 miles away.
She and her cousin were running and hiding from the camera. Caught her off guard in this one. She was expecting us to be outside shooting through the bars, but I was inside
Here she is running through her Grandpa's rubber tree farm.
She saw her first white guy and cried and cried and cried. My family thought it was I that made her cry, but they too made her cry.

One of the girls photographed up above, Nhi, had an MRI done this past week. And she has a large malignant brain tumor. The girl is my wife's second cousin. I met Nhi back in 2005 when she was shy and then again in 2008 when I stayed at her Grandpa's house for a few days. At this time, she would sit beside me and chat with me (she spoke Vietnamese and I spoke English). She's my Princess and very photogenic.
As I usually tell people;
In 2005 she was shy
In 2008 she was giggly and would talk my ears off
In 2010 she was a Princess
We took a walk to her Aunts house (a large group of us) and during this walk she came up next to me and grabbed my hand and held.
If anyone knows or has a contact for a specialist in Vietnam; please send me a message. Otherwise, please pray for Nhi that she can overcome this disease.
Photos of her can be found here: click here
Thank you & God Bless
