Haven't been hearing much from Tokina since selling my 17mm f/3.5 AT-X
lens a couple of years ago. Now they seem to (finaly) have another
interesting lens for fullframe comming up and shipping in august:

The 16-28mm f/2.8 designed for Canon 5D II and Nikon FX cameras.

"The 16-28 f/2.8 uses a newly developed silent DC motor that allows the lens to focus faster and more quietly then previous generations."

Sounds like Tokina is finally trying to be competitive in the AF department. It will be interesting to see how it really performs.

Not to mention they claim it to be properly weather sealed.

I saw some samples and it looks pretty dang sharp by f/8. Although, I must say, as a landscape photographer I'm not very interested if this lens doesn't accept normal filters... I'd rather have the Nikon 16-35 VR I guess, unless the Tokina is just oodles cheaper...

Tokina has posted some full frame, hi-res samples shot taken with a D3x here.

I was looking for a wide angle lens for my D200 that was 2.8 and took a chance on the 11-16mm 2.8. If what I'm seeing for the 16-28mm 2.8 is true when I was considering the Nikon 14-24mm 2.8 I recall finding a polarizing filter for right around $850, which automatically brought a oh no way.
