Now, I may not be posting this in the right place, but here goes.

I am at Penn State and one athlete on the track team here wants me to take a portrait session with him. I understand normal portrait techniques and such, but I am at a loss for interesting track themes photos.

If anyone could lead me in the right direction by way of examples, that would be awesome.

I am by no means a track portrait photographer, however, what about doing something in the starting blocks, like the athlete setting up to take off, and the take off from the blocks. Anyway just a suggestion!

You could use flash to make for dramatically lit portraits. You might also consider his event and include elements of it in the shot. How's about setting up some shots of his event? Maybe panning shots to add motion?

    Lots of possibilities. Good luck!

I find Zach Ancell's work to be really cool.... He has shot all the Univ of Oregon's track and field billboards around town. He even has a couple articles detailing his technique. Very cool stuff. Link => http://www.zachancell.com
