Someone is misusing my name (perhaps)

I have no idea what to do about it.

At any rate, I definitely did NOT post the comments on Ian Brodie's site today.
See http://www.ianbrodiephoto.net/Image-of-the-Day/Image-of-the-Day/12084175_TVGwV#928470494_cGKhc..

Of course, there may be someone else in the world with the same name - just slightly unnerving.

Anyone know of other cases of comments under wrong names?

Almost certainly true, Andy - just a bit sensitive since I've started getting "one star"s from guest commenters without email addresses.

    Definitely somebody misusing my name!
    Sorry, but it is definite.

The rude comments supposedly by me on Donna Leombruno's site listed under my name and website were NOT from me.

I hope someone can inform Donna and block the rude person.

    See http://hocusfocusd70.smugmug.com/Other/Dailies/7669174_dxKqa#930658059_2Pc8x for Donna's daily.

This may be something serious. I too have received comments on my dailys from "Cali78" and "Caro" with one star (like Donna's site).

    Please advise.

Jerry, your comments will have your bio pic. These are someone else. The commentee can choose to delete that comment, of course.

That 'someone else' is listing my website for contact. Donna doesn't list an email contact. I hope someone at Smugmug can contact her (hocusfocus70). I searched DGrin for her without success (to send a private message).

Post a comment on her site - she'll see it. Better yet, email her with the email address she provides right on her homepage http://hocusfocusd70.smugmug.com/

    Another low ranking
    Andy et al:

I understand that you are looking into the strange 'low ranking' and rude comments.

I just received another one from 'guest':
Today (16 July) at 00:58 Pacific time (09:58 CEST)
    See http://www.jerrybarton.eu/Other/DailyPicks/201007143250/936363055_F3Y3H-XL.jpg

Such comments seem to be appearing on several daily community members.

    Thanks for any help. Jerry

Jerry - the comment is "Cool" http://jlbarton.smugmug.com/Other/DailyPicks/12809003_GAzkc#936363055_F3Y3H
We can't stop people from commenting as they decide to... if you allow comments. Not sure what you want us to do? Please elaborate.

I and others seem to be experiencing 'guest' comments with various (or no) names, short text (sometimes positive, sometimes not) with 'one star' ratings.

This may or may not be coupled with someone giving 'thumbs down' on the same pictures. Very difficult to tell, of course - I only know that This photo doesn't show up in the DailyPhotos/Popular/Today list despite positive comments and ratings - which effectively limits the exposure for other potential viewers.

My opinion (OK, I've only been in this forum for two weeks) is that someone is abusing the rating system to discourage the DailyPhotos community - and making some individuals spend undue time cleaning up comments.

What do I want you specifically to do? A bit of forensics to determine whether the above assumptions might be true. I was told by another member that you had been informed of this situation and had informed him that he should not delete the comment so the team could trace the IP. [sorry, the 'other member's name is on my home computer - I'll update this when I get home]

    Hi Jerry,

Sorry, but we can't dig into who left a comment and we've been, to my knowledge, always communicated that while advising to turn on comment approval so the comments don't show on your site and can be deleted by you.

    Thank you, Andy and Rainforest!
Sorry to have bothered you, but you did help me change my attitude. I was getting much too frustrated and tense - and that's not the point. I'll never change anyone else's behaviour, and I enjoy giving and getting comments - so I just ignore the temptation to get bothered. SmugMug still seems to be growing. Keep up the good work.
