Anyone on here have any experience with re-registering your domain name?
I received a communication from the Domain Registry of America about a week or so ago saying my domain name was up for re-registration. I renewed for two years on my credit card.
Today I got an email from the company saying they couldn't act on my request because another company named Wild West Domains had a "registrar-lock "on my name. Apparently I need something called an EPP Key/Authorization Code before the registraion process can be completed.
What's going on? Is this a rip-off?

If the person that owned the WWD site you bought from is no longer in business then go directly to Go Daddy with your customer number and they should be able to fix you up in no time.......
EDIT: just went to Go Daddy to run your domain name thru WHOIS and it says you purchased thru Smugmug.....it seems a bit early to have to reregister since your doamin does not expire until Nov 1.
The reregistering for me thru Go Daddy is simple and painless ....I have never worked thru a 3rd party before....sorry
Send the help dest a direct message...........I think the email is: help at smugmug dot com
Thanks, Art. I'm just getting paranoid in my old age.

that can be a good thing............You are welcome!!
Not paranoid at all! Domain Registry of America sends these blanket letters out to everyone a few months before your domain expires. They very carefully never actually say that you are registered with them, but they certainly leave you with that inpression.
The registrar lock that most reputable places offer now is actually put in for protection from these kinds of folks.
Come to think of it I have received a few need to reregister emails.....but it was way to early and then before I actually opend the email.....I looked back at my last letter from Godaddy.......I marked them as a phising scam and spam and have not heard that name until.....I mixed them up with Network solutions who registered my first domain for $35/yr and it was only for one yr.......then Godaddy came along offering a $5 domain and I have been there ever since..........................................
