Bald Eagles - Alaska

We were pleased to see so many Bald Eagles during our trip to Alaska last month. They were nesting, so we saw lots of pairs sitting on or near their nests. We were never close enough to see if any young were present.

I can't decide what I prefer for the WB and the sky in the first two shots. I have others similar to these and have tried different treatments. Some end up too blue and some are too pale. The sky was overcast and grayish but had a bit of texture from clouds; I think I'm leaning towards the tones in the first two but would appreciate any suggestions or comments.

Really really nice captures!!! #3 is my favorite!!! the eagle stands out against the background, but #2 is great as well - that must have been beautiful to see!

Thanks, Eia. I appreciate your comments. It was, indeed, beautiful to see all the Bald Eagles! I have loved them since I was a little girl, and I remember writing a science research paper in high school, about the effects of DDT on the birds. It is exciting to know they have made such a recovery over the years and they are back in abundance!

It's at his command that the eagle mounts up, And makes his nest on high! iloveyou.gif that is what I'm reminded of when I see photographs of eagles on top of the trees!

IMO #3 is the superior image in every way. Nice set and glad you enjoyed your trip north. I live up here among the eagles but never get tired of seeing them. I always take time to pause and look at them. Except when driving, of course eek7.gif Though I have to admit I've had a polite honk or two at red (rather green) lights when there's an eagle passing overhead rolleyes1.gif

:D Nice story, Dan. I would never tire of looking at these birds either. If I lived there (which I wish I did!) I would most certainly invest in a nice, big lens . . . and use it every day! thumb.gif

Very nice photos Lauren! I too prefer #3 as there is much better separation between the subject and the background. The Eagle really stands out. I love Eagles!!
