I'm myself an "anti-rule of 3rd". My only rule in composition is to look for the framing that best emphasize what I want to show in the picture, being aware that off-center is often effective.

The article was written for people just starting in photography, and who often use center heavy composition. (Heck, I still do that more than I'd like). It shows them the rule. Then, at the end, I tell them that it's really more a guideline, and that sometimes, a centered composition is better
