Apprensive about EZprints colour correction...

Hi All, I am going to send a link to this post to the helpdesk shortly as well but thought maybe someone here already knew the answer from experience...

I just got back from shooting the 2010 World Ultimate Club Champs in Prague and have a lot of photos... For some reason, I have a real liking for what I think of as high key, overexposed portraits of celebrating or commiserating players...

In the past I haven't sold any of these and my GF in particular keeps suggesting a more normal processing style would be better.

This time however, these high key images are flying out the door and I am worried that the EZprints default colour correction might screw them up... Here are a couple of examples...

I know I can turn CC off for some galleries and for individual photos at the proof delay stage (which I do have turned on)... But I need to know if I should.

The CC hasn't caused me problems in the past but I wonder if the computer is smart enough to figure out these pictures should look like this or if it's going to try and fix them...

Oh, if anyone is interested in pics from the World Ultimate champs, I have a highlights gallery here: http://www.nzsnaps.com/Ultimate/WUCC2010/WUCC2010-Highlights/11969469_ot3Sk

    Hi Neil,

I'm Steve, one of the image specialists here at SmugMug. In a word, yes, you want to turn off color correction. Here's why:

The process at EZ Prints is fully automated with no human intervention. It always: Brightens, slightly sharpens, and enhances colors making green grass greener, blue skies bluer, and less red skin tones. While the process at EZ Prints cannot darken images (getting away from your high key artistic intention) it will always brighten images. With these images already being intentionally overexposed, it may be more than you're bargaining for, and really wash the images and detail present away.

Bay Photo may be a better choice if you feel these images need color correction, but as Bay corrects by hand, they very well may try to adjust the levels on these making them "correct", losing your artistic intention.

My best advice would be to place a small test print order with color correction OFF, so you can judge if any post processing tweaks are needed for great prints, and to maintain your artistic integrity.
